You do not require a doctor’s sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may, however, require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website. If sickness continues for more than 7 days you will require a doctors statement of fitness for work note. Sicknotes can only be requested on the day they run out as they cannot be forward dated due to being a legal document. Please call us after 9am to request a sicknote on the day it runs out.
Be prepared for reception to ask you information regarding; the length of time you require to be signed unfit for work and the reason why you are unfit for work.
Please be aware that where appropriate sicknotes will not be seen as urgent for actioning that day and will be processed within a 48 hour time period. The GP may decide you require a face to face review which would require you to contact us at 8.00am on the day you wish to attend in order to book an appointment, as sick notes can be back dated.
Returning to work – there is no such thing as a return to work note. If you feel you are ready to return to work but on amended duties, our doctor can do a phased return/light duties note.
If your employer requires it in writing that you are fit to work, this is private work and will be susceptible to a fee – please contact reception for information. More information regarding this can be found on the HMRC website.
